Three separate licensed categories, and customers know none of them
NSW treats roof plumbing, roof slating and roof tiling as three distinct categories of residential building work, each needing a contractor licence once the job exceeds $5,000 in labour and materials including GST. Customers do not know this, and it matters to them more than they realise, because the person who can legally replace your metal roof and flashings is not necessarily licensed to re-tile it. Saying which of the three you hold is more informative than any amount of "quality workmanship guaranteed", and it is checkable on the free public register, which is the point.

Demand arrives with the weather, and so do the door-knockers
Roofing carries the worst reputation problem it did not earn, because storm season reliably brings door-knockers, cash deposits and unlicensed work into the same suburbs as legitimate roofers. Your prospective customer is not only deciding whether to hire you, they are actively trying to work out whether you are a scam. Every ordinary trust signal is worth more here than anywhere else: a licence number, a fixed address, a written quote before payment, a stated position on deposits. An honest roofer who publishes none of those is competing on level terms with someone who should not be working at all.
